After a veterinarian saved his dog Chico, Pete Pantoja, 76, said he had a dream inspiring him to build a shrine to thank Jesus outside his apartment at 1041 Grandville Ave SW. Here, Pantoja watches traffic from the shrine Sunday, August 7, 2011. He hopes the shrine will be a symbol of Jesus' love to the community and spends much of his time sitting there. "Maybe it will open up their eyes and make life easier for them," he said. The right side of the shrine predominantly has animal figurines while the left side has religious statues.
